Novinger Tournament Thursday Results
Brashear Tigers and Lady Tigers advance to finals with wins over Scotland County.
Thursday nights action saw the Brashear Lady Tigers square off against the Scotland County Lady Tigers in the championship semi-final game. Brashear managed to get an early lead, but still only led 8-6 after the first quarter and 14-12 at halftime. Brashear managed to gain some breathing room in the 2nd half as they extended their lead to 29-20 at the end of the third on their way to a 45-31 win. Hailee Kelsey led the way for Brashear with a 16 point double-double. Christina Scudder was also in double figures with 12 points, Jessi Hill added 7, Stephanie Elsea came off the bench for 6 4th quarter free throw points, and Caroline Slavin scored 4 points. Kirsten Johnson paced Scotland County with 12 points, Kaitlin Caldwell chipped in 7, Kelsey Frazier added 6, and Jessica Bair, Melissa Ward, and Valerie Oldham had 2 points each. Brashear will play LaPlata Saturday night at 7:10 for the championship and Scotland County will play Novinger 4:30 Saturday for 3rd place.
The boys championship semi-final game also featured the Brashear Tigers and the Scotland County Tigers. Brashear jumped out to an early lead and was up 15-6 after one quarter and 37-18 at halftime. Scotland County managed to outscore Brashear 23-21 in the 2nd half, but it was too little too late. Brashear led 46-28 at the end of the 3rd quarter and picked up the win 58-41. For Brashear, Matt Thomas and Kiley Watson had 13 points each, Trae Treasure had 10, Kale Watson added 8, Jacob Shipman had 6, Justin Hazen had 4, and Adam Songer and David Anderson scored 2 points each. Scotland County was led by Travis Trueblood with 17, Jacob Howard and Cody Musgrove had 6 points each, Andrew Duley had 5, Kyle Shelly and Joe Spurgeon had 3 points each, and Matt Dice scored 1 point. Brashear will play LaPlata at 8:30 Saturday for the championship and Scotland County will play Novinger at 5:50 Saturday in the 3rd place game.
In other Thursday action, the Bevier girls downed Milan 56-44. Bevier will play Green City Friday at 7:10 for consolation and Milan will play Grundy County Friday at 4:30 for 7th place. The Bevier boys defeated Grundy County 68-51. They will face Milan Friday at 8:30 in the consolation game. Grundy County will face Green City Friday at 5:50 in the 7th place game.
